The all-new Sully Sports Bar and Lounge experience, big screen energy and game day specials. Every day is a game day at Century Mile or at Century Casino. We welcome back Ron McLean. Hello, Ron. How are you doing? I'm good, Bob. How are you doing? I'm doing good. I was sad to hear the news on Dave Mason. I love that song. Yeah, I do too. You know, it's interesting. We announced the Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees yesterday. They made the announcement two days ago, but we did it on Hockey Night last night. They're going to have Feist, The Hip, Mike Reno and Loverboy and Rock Voisin go in. But I always loved the writing aspect. I've gone to the Massey Hall ceremony. I had the pleasure of inducting Jim Cuddy and Greg Keeler of Blue Rodeo. But yeah, Dave Mason right there was one of the great guys at penning, you know, all the different selves that we become. Now, if I, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, I could have sworn that Michelle Terrion, who I believe was a police officer at one time, also did extra security for Rock Voisin when he was a big star in the mid-midnight, just before he became a prominent coach. Do you ever hear this story? No, I know that Rock was a hockey player though, so it kind of makes sense. He played really high level. He was a great U18 AAA hockey player and then he played for the Quebec Ramparts. He got into preseason games, but then got relegated and then played for University of Ottawa, but he's a good, he's the kind of guy that can do his own acting when called upon to play hockey. And so it would make sense that he'd have friends in the hockey world. All right, we need, look, we need, here's the bottom line. For NHL hockey and Rogers, and this has been a tough series and it was always going to be a tough series. And the reality is I do think there is a cumulative effect. I know Ryan Rashog is, was just on the show and I just said, Ryan, it's, it's hard to win in this league. And it's something Brian Burke brings up every Friday in Oilers now. People shouldn't, I mean, to put things in perspective, Ron, the Calgary flames since winning the 1989 Stanley Cup, the Calgary flames over the last 36 years have won six playoff series. The Oilers have won nine in the last four years and won a playoff series. It's, it is hard to win. And there's, and youth is being served around the league as well. And, and we've got a couple, you know, teams that got Montreal's got a chance to close out a team in game six at home tomorrow. You got, you know, another, another young team, Buffalo and Boston, another young team, Anaheim, another young team. Even the Flyers taking care of Pittsburgh last night. What's what's your sort of overall goal for it? It's interesting because when Rick bonus had his tirade at the end of the season and he said 23 giveaways and three hits. And he was really upset at the 23 giveaways. The ducks had 17 the other night. And I, you know, but I will say the difference between the ducks and the blue jackets, the blue jackets had three hits. The ducks had 40 two nights ago. So that's a big difference, but they did look young. And you know who I was thinking looked young and shaken was Dostal. I thought in net, he, you know, and because Ingram was a brave call. I understand Chris's rationale. He's our guy, but he was fantastic. Everything about his game was great, not just the saves, but the way he moved the puck was, I thought unreal the other night. So he, he was moxy, but I thought Dostal looked a little rattled. Now the ducks, Bob, as you probably know, have been a good home team. The 16 teams in the derby, the team with the best record of home winning percentage versus road winning percentage, Boston Bruins. And they got slaughtered in game four in their own barn. So what does that mean? The ducks, however, are second in that regard. They're a very good home team. They looked, you know, a little bit overwhelmed by the opportunity. And that's what happens when you're young and suddenly you get your eyes on the prize. You know, bad things can happen. And they did to the ducks after Edmonton just jumped on them with a number of things. Knobloch's decision in net, but he obviously brought McDavid. You can see he was doing the mind games with Dickinson and McDavid, maybe, you know, game time decision, but he came out with the big guns right away. And Kapanen, who, as you were saying with Ryan is clutch. He not only has the golden goal at the world championships in 2016, but he's got two overtime goals already in his young career. He's like that Brett Houghton over in Vegas. Some guys just believe. Yeah. Yeah, no question about it. Now, one thing the Oilers did early and then moved away from it is if they couldn't enter the zone, they took a page right out of the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes book. And that's hard rims down the left wall and then going over to the right side as the puck wraps around behind the net and on the sideboards to create some turnovers. They basically got their first two goals that way. And then once they built up the four, one lead, they, they moved off of it. I know there were a lot of fans frustrated, so that, that was interesting. Is it too simple? That's going to be a lacombe, right? That's you're going to target Jackson lacombe when you do that, because his D partner is true. But I can't believe they can't play D with true, but not that he's ever been a Norris guy, but he's still a very dependable NHL defenseman. And John Carlson stud, but they've really struggled. And maybe that again is, you know, if you can target like Dennis Plotvin always had guys, you know, go take the puck. Pearson was his main guy, but he, he never wanted to be the guy taking the bread. And they did that Philadelphia when they beat Boston to win the cup in 74. They dumped it into the Ores corner and just made it hard on a guy that couldn't turn. So it was a good strategy. And Evan, I thought, like you say, I mean, they, they owned the game for 12 to 15 minutes and then it was a, you know, kind of jump ball after that. But with a three goal lead, that's allowed. It is. It's been an interesting series and I like it's, they got to find a way to get it back to game seven, but still lots of work to do. Montreal tap help. Ron, how awesome is that? Well, before you jump off that, I'll just, to go back to the Ryan Rashad conversation you were having. And she said, are you trying to soften the blow for me when you mentioned 40 years ago today and a couple of other things. So the Steve Smith, it's interesting when you do look at this day in history, normally in the spring, like every date you pick has about eight, you know, Gretzky did this. Messier did this. Fure did that. And another cup win, you know, the Oilers are all over the record book, but this particular date, for whatever reason, the only thing that pops up is Steve scoring in his own goal. But it was on his birthday to make it crazier. The one hope I'll give you is Chris Crider's birthday today. So if you're looking for an own goal on the ducks or somebody to do something to harm Anaheim's chances and have a Steve Smith moment. And I, you know, Steve bounced back, as you saw. So to Montreal, I just look at Dobish early in the year after he lost his first game, he was coming unglued. And we all thought, Oh boy, he needs a sports psych for sure. And he's been, you know, and he had a, their goaltending was for the longest time debatable. They, they were one of those teams, Bob, with an eight 90 team save percentage and yet they ended up with 106 points. So their goaltending mountain bow lost the net. They had issues. Kirby doc the other night had issues, but he rallied and scored a huge goal. The second goal for the Canadians, 11 seconds after they'd surrendered an equalizer was tremendous. So all that mental toughness is a, is a big part of why, you know, Edmonton fans can, can have hope, you know, guys like Vasily Podkolzin, who's kind of the new Zach Hyman. He's, he's taken the role. Zach had the last couple of years till he got hurt. Right. He's been, he's been just their best player other than the, you know, it's a given that 97 and 29 and Bouchard will be. How many shots do you think Bouchard had on net the other night? Four. None. He didn't have a shot on goal. We would all agree because Luke Gazdik interviewed him with Paul coffee's sensational interview during which Paul said, you know, his passing is extraordinarily underrated and he's the real deal and all this. And then they talked a lot about how McDavid wants the puck here, there and everywhere on the ice. And Evan knows how to get it to him. That's why I wanted him on team Canada, Ron. Of course. Exactly. Like how could they not know that? How, how could they not
