We during the course of the day should be back in a studio tomorrow to host Oilers now. It's interesting, bumped into the Anaheim Ducks, rolled in the same hotel as us and thought Jay Woodcroft for the first time since he was relieved of his duties as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers a couple years ago. It made me think and think back to records through 15 games. In 23-24 the year Jay was removed at 3-9-1. Through 15 games the Oilers were 5-9-1. 11 points. Last year through 15 games 7-7-1, 15 points. This year through 15 games 6-5-4 for 16 points. The Oilers a couple years ago were 24th in goals for, 28th in goals against, 7th on the power play and 25th on the penalty kill. Last season against 7-7-1 through 15 games, 22nd in goals for, 20th in goals against, 25th on the power play and dead last on the penalty killing. The penalty killing started the year 59.8% on the kill through the first 15 games of the year. This year the Oilers again 6-5-4 through the first 15 games. Not the start that anybody wants. There's great expectations for the team this year. 16th in goals for, 17th in goals against, 1st on the power play at 35%, and 78.4% 17th on the legal penalty kill. And so I'm going to open up the Ashley Fineflores text line and say what concerns you the most about the start to the year? Because they are running a hot power play. The team does not have Zach Hyman. They missed the speed. I'm not saying that Janmark at this stage necessarily is even going to be an everyday player, but I think they missed the speed on the flanks and the experience of Janmark and Kapanen further down the lineup, especially given the off-season losses of a guy like Connor Brown, who was a pretty effective third-line player, not to mention Corey Perry as an experienced guy. I think Roselvich is good, but I'd like to get your thoughts. The numbers, I mean, the reality of the situation is Edmonton could easily, if they're not squandered multiple two-goal leads here, easily be in a position where they might have a nine and six record or, you know, a ten and five record at this point in the season. So you tell us, Texas 7-8-0, uh, 4-5-1-80-800. But right now, right here, we're going to go into the Oilers Now Audio Vault for Direct Workwear. The Oilers Now Audio Vault is brought to you by Direct Workwear. In these tight budget times, Direct Workwear is the superhero your wallet deserves. Huge selection, low prices at Direct Workwear. And here's the audio call of last night's game, Cam Moon, with the Oilers losing 4-3 in a shootout to Dallas. The Oilers in Dallas, the end of the two-game and two-night road trip. Good evening, drives down the right side, one hand in front, scores! A one-hand pass by Roselvich over to Pod Coleson and it's 1-0 Edmonton. Right-wing corner of the shot, Dreisaitl, scores! Leon Dreisaitl from a real sharp angle, one-timer makes it 2-0 Edmonton. To Johnston, to the slot, Robertson, shot, same thing, rebound, scores! At the side of the goal, Brantnan. Stolen at center ice by Mangiaponte into the star zone, across to Nugent-Hopkins, to McDavid, scores! Connor McDavid gives the Oilers a 3-1 lead. Now cross-ice pass out to Rantanen, he scores. Wyatt Johnston got it to Rantanen in the slot in the Oilers zone and the Edmonton lead is down to 3-2. Here's Rantanen, we'll get the puck on the right to Robertson, loose puck, scores! Haskanen followed it up and it bounced behind the net, came right up to Haskanen and he ties the game at three. This goes around and off of McDavid and out and this will go to extra time. To Lindell, Lindell to Haskanen, in front to Singh and oh what a save by Skinner with the left pad. We're going to need a shootout to finish this thing off. Wyatt Johnston into the Oilers zone, Wyatt Johnston shoots, scores! And the Stars will win it in a shootout. The weather's dropped 0-2 in shootouts this year. They're now 6-5-4 on the season. Again, I'd like to get your thoughts on the Astley Five Floors text line 451-8800. Are you concerned? The team at 6-5-4 through the first 15 games. They got two home games, Colorado and Columbus, those will be tough games. And then they got a brutal seven-game road trip. So basically in their first 24 games, they're going to have 16 games on the road. At some point here, Zach Hyman and Mattias Janmark will come back, but every team in the league has injuries. I'd like to get your thoughts as to what you think ultimately are the biggest challenges that the Oilers face and what is your level of concern with how the team is playing? Or is it just same old, same old for an amateur hockey club that is a notoriously slow starting team? Again, I don't know why, but it just seems to happen year after year after year. Here's Chris Knobloch, Oilers head coach, and the Oilers losing a lead last night. The third period, we got three chances, which you would think that that would be on the goalie, that you give up two goals on three chances, but that's not what I'm saying. It's just the type of chances where we lose focus, lose responsibilities, and letting them in a position to make a good play, where it's one thing if the opposition is making good plays and beating your coverage, but we're just making mistakes where we're giving them opportunities. To me, the Oilers look like they lack intensity and engagement. That's a personal perception. You don't have to agree with me. That's the beauty of the show. All right, one more comment. Ryan Nugent Hopkins on how to hold a lead. Well, I mean, there's a lot of things, but decision making is one thing, reading the situation and sometimes taking the cautionary route, but also at the same time, we want to still play and you got to push them back and all that doesn't play with the puck too much. Then they start feeling good. They start to feel comfortable and then things happen, but yeah, I mean, it's just too many of these right now, so it's something that we need to fix and continue and improve on. Here we go. It's Ryan Nugent Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers. It is 4-18 in oil country when we come back. Former Edmonton Oilers captain and the head coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings, whose team's been lighting it up offensively, Jason Smith, when we return. Bob Stauffer joining you, Dallas, Texas, and you're listening to Oilers Now and we're going to head off to the River Creek Resort and Casino Hotline and welcome back to the show. Edmonton Oil Kings head coach, Jason Smith. Jason's appearances are brought to you by Sherwood Power Sports and Marine. You're home for boats, ATVs, motorbikes, and all the gear you need. Hello, Jason. How are you doing? Very good, Bob. Thanks for having me. I bumped into Alice Hemsky today. I don't know if you've been to Dallas since the Gilardes built. The Moxie's in Dallas near the hotel is one of the most popular spots you'll find in Texas. It's where the majority of the players go after the games. I know we had some service member, retired service members that were friends of Cam Moon's here. We bumped into those guys, but this morning went for lunch with Chris and bumped into Alice Hemsky. Wanted to say a special shout out to everybody back in oil country. He's actually coming to town for Bruce Saville's Celebration of Life. I know that you had nothing but the utmost respect for the courage that Alice played with and how he's willing to take pucks into the high rent district to make plays to score for you guys. He was definitely an elite skilled player. He had speed, puck skills, and courage to take the puck to the net for not a real big human being, but he sure took pride in taking the puck to the net and getting into those dirty areas. We had Chris Pronger on the show on Monday. Hammer was a huge part like Chris was that 06 playoff run, which I think you guys really ended up regenerating a whole new era of Oilers fans. Do you ever get that sense when you talk to people? I know you've done some signings with Jack Hookson and the folk
